Crowns and rebuilds

Chimney repair and rebuilding

The chimney is the most exposed part of the masonry: rain, frost and wind wear it out faster than the rest. We repair it, redo its crown or rebuild it from the roofline.

Jean-François, co-owner of Maçonnerie JP inc., repointing a stone chimney on a tarp-protected roof

What we do

  • Repointing worn or missing joints
  • New crown (the top of the chimney) to shed water
  • Replacing spalled bricks and stones
  • Full rebuild from the roofline
  • Removing a chimney that's no longer used, with your roofer closing the roof

Signs to watch for

  • Pieces of brick or mortar on the roof or at the foot of the house
  • A cracked or crumbling crown
  • A leaning chimney or eroded joints
  • Water stains on the ceiling or wall around the chimney

Safety first

We work at height with full protective equipment and protect your roof during the work. If the chimney still serves a fireplace or stove, we recommend having a certified chimney sweep inspect it before and after the work.

Frequently asked questions

Should my chimney be rebuilt or repaired?

If the brick is sound and only the joints and crown are worn, a repair is enough. If the chimney leans or many bricks are loose, a rebuild from the roofline lasts longer.

Do you work on stone chimneys?

Yes, brick and stone alike.

Will my roof be protected?

Yes, we protect the roofing around the chimney and clean up all debris at the end of the job.
