Lintels and sills
Lintels, sills and openings in brick walls
A window being enlarged, a new door, a rusted lintel cracking the brick: we rebuild the opening so it's straight, solid and watertight.

What we do
- Replacing rusted steel lintels and the brick around them
- New or replacement concrete and stone sills
- Arches and soldier courses above windows
- Enlarging, adding or closing an opening in a brick wall
- Flashing under sills and above lintels to shed water
Rusted lintels: a common problem
A rusting steel lintel swells and pushes the brick up, which shows as a crack running from the corner of the window. The longer it waits, the more brick has to come out. Replacing it early costs less.
Alongside your door and window replacement
We can work before or after your door and window installer to adapt the opening, redo the sills and finish the brick around the new frame.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know my lintel needs replacing?
A crack climbing diagonally from the corner of a window, lifted bricks above the opening or visible rust are the most common signs.
Can you enlarge a window in a brick wall?
Yes. We cut the brick, install a new lintel and rebuild the sides and sill to the new size.
Do you work in winter?
Yes, we work 12 months a year. Some mortar work needs cold-weather precautions; we'll tell you what's possible for the season.
